A 1-hour video by Dr. Michael Greger, MD., outlining the origins and history of pandemics. Exposes how factory farm practices have/are contributing to pandemics that kill more people than we lose to war. It also touches on the misuse of antibiotics in factory farm animals and how this is causing antibiotic-resistance & making it more difficult to treat bacterial infections in humans.
9) True Health Initiative (THI)- Below is a brief update from THI. These are excerpts from their update 5/21/2020 which includes a link to THI's "Total Harm Minimization Approach".
"At the outset of the United States' COVID-19 pandemic response, THI President David L. Katz assembled a working group of medical and modeling/analytic professionals to advocate for a Total Harm Minimization approach. This approach is nuanced and includes a careful, structured release from quarantine policies while taking social determinants of health into consideration. Dr. Katz appeared in front of the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security Committee and Governmental Affairs to provide expertise, advised state executives on public health policies, published an op-ed in the NY Times, and appeared in countless televised interviews. In April, Dr. Katz also volunteered his time to provide clinical support in a NYC hospital's emergency department. THI has been working to expedite sharing of Dr. Katz's measured response with media, our partners, and the public".
"A healthy lifestyle is a powerful defense against illness. According to Dr. Katz and other experts, including many of our Council Members, it is essential that during this pandemic we continue to address the same lifestyle-related health problems we have always fought against (chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, obesity, cardiovascular disease, etc.). While these diseases are often slow-motion actors, they are now appearing as acute health threats when viewed in conjunction with COVID-19. THI is committed to continuing to educate people on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and help them jump-start healthy eating and lifestyle in order to decrease risk of complications should they become infected with COVID-19".
